Project Pillow Swap

Nothing makes me happier than changing my pillows for the season!  I'm ready to update with some new pillows for spring and summer and I thought it might be fun to do just that with my blogging friends.
Is anyone up for an accent pillow swap?

Here are the rules:
1. Each participant will make a 16x16 pillow for their partner.  In order to make shipping easier on everyone, please make a case with an opening to slide a pillow form in and each participant will put their own pillow form in after receiving the case.
2. Please be sensitive to your partner's taste in color and style.
3. Pillow covers must be mailed out by June 15.
4. I will create a Flickr group to post photos and discussion.  I'll let you know when that is up and running.  Please join this group.
5. Grab the button on my sidebar and/or post about the swap on your blog.

This will be a secret swap, so you won't know who your partner is until you receive your pillow cover.  Let's have fun and don't be afraid to try something new.  Pillows are a great project to experiment with!  I will email you with your partner's info shortly after April 15th.  I'll do my best to get info out by the 17th.

To join the swap simply email me ( modifiedmix@gmail.com )the following information by April 15:

1. Your name
2. Your mailing address
3. Colors/styles that you like
4. Your email address
5. Your blog address if you have one
6. Your Flickr name
7. Will you ship internationally?

Potholders complete!

Well, I almost passed my deadline for Potholder Pass 2, but just in time I have them completed.  I'm almost embarrassed to show them, but I will.  Let's just say that I'm learning.
These are the first things I've ever done machine binding on.  I've always done it by hand before.  I hope my swap partner won't be too offended.  I did have fun though, and I'm sure that my next attempt will be much neater!  I also sent along a little tea towel that I made from weaver's cloth and some of the binding fabric.  I think it turned out really cute.
The fabric that I used was Soiree honeybun from Moda.  I really like the springtime feel it has.  I am all about springtime right now.  Just waiting for that warm weather and the birds chirping!  The binding is a batik polka dot that I picked up at JoAnn's.  I really like it and you might be seeing it again soon in another project!

Giveaway Time!!!

In honor of St. Patty's Day, I'll do this post in green!  Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you lads and lasses out there!  I hope you've had a lucky day!

It's time for a giveaway!
Stitching has become my favorite hobby lately.  I seem to go in phases between sewing and stitching and since I love my stitching so much right now, I'd love to share it with someone else.
The lucky winner will receive the floss, the needles and the transfer pen in the picture below and some other goodies. I will try my best to sketch a design of the winner's choice.  And I will most likely throw in a small Mary Kay goodie.

And all you have to do to win is leave a comment.
Tell me what your favorite hobby is and also what pattern you'd like me to sketch if you win.
The giveaway will be open through midnight Sunday.  I will announce the winner on Monday.  I will be using the random number generator.
I can't wait to hear from you!
Be sure to leave an email for me to reach you at if you don't have it set up to show on your profile, or if you comment anonymously.
Let your friends know!  The more the merrier!

Nutty for Squirrels Pillow and a basketball finale

Here is my cute little squirrel pillow. I didn't have a form to fit it, but for now, I'm going to count this as a finish.  Two finishes in two days.... that might be a record for me!

Today was also the last basketball game at the Y for my eight year old.  It took them all season, but they finally won their last game.  They played great and had fun!
Here is my little Air Jordan taking a shot...

And this picture was taken by my 6 year old.  Not bad!  I thought it was pretty good timing!

With basketball and swimming ending this week, you would think we might have a bit of a break!  Wrong!  This week is the start of indoor soccer and karate.  :c)

Wild Thyme Owl Pillow

So I finally got around to finishing my owl pillow.  I haven't been very good at finishing anything lately, so that will be my focus for a while.  I do have to start my Potholder Pass swap though, for sure.  That will be done this weekend!
The photo isn't so great, but here is the finished pillow!

Doesn't he look wise!?!
Hope you all have a great weekend full of fun!

Potholder Pass 2 MAIL!!! Thank you, CARLA!

Hooray!  I got fabulous mail again!  So much better than a stack of bills!!  I love getting this kind of mail.  Carla from AZ sent me these really fun and pretty potholders!  They are the perfect match for my kitchen.  Just the right colors! Check out Carla's blog  here .  She has so many cool projects to see!

I love the quilting and the cute circle flowers!  She sent me a nice note and a tea towel to match. I love it all!

It is hard to see here, but there is one line of bright blue thread on the back.  It is really cool!

I better get sewing on my potholders!

Springtime and MAIL!

I can tell that spring is in the air... the bagpipe lady next door has brought the pipes back outside for her neighborhood serenade.  The neighborhood sounds like a funeral, but I am enjoying the bright sunshine and the warmer weather.

Anyway, I got some outstanding mail today!  First, I got my Granny quilt.  To see more from her, click on the Granny button on the sidebar.  She and her family are truly amazing!  Definitely check her out!  Here is the quilt that this wonderful 96 year old lady made.

My six year old loves it because it has a square of race car fabric in it.

My second package came from the Downy Touch of Comfort  campaign.  I have everything I need to make a quilt for a child who has been hospitalized.  My own son spent quite a bit of time in the hospital during his first few years, so I know how important it is to make the kids feel at home until they are better.  Hopefully the quilt that I make will put a smile on a young face.  I was kind of hoping to get a kit for a girl, but I guess I am destined only to sew for boys.  Everything comes all cut and ready to sew.

Squirrels

After a busy week of life (a.k.a. not enough crafting and sewing or blogging) these cute little squirrels are what I have to show to you.  This was another Badbird pattern just like the wise old owl that you can find below.  Now I have two that I need to finish.  I think I'm going to make them into pillows.

I've also been thinking about doing a small giveaway.  What do you all think?  I was thinking along the lines of an embroidery kit.  Does that sound like fun?
