FNSI- not so productive

Another FNSI, thanks to Bobbi and Heidi!! Unfortunately, I wasn't as productive as I had planned.  If only I could grow four or five new hands or hire an au pair!  My children all had other plans for my evening, but I did manage to get my Potholder Pass 6 potholders quilted and the bindings partially prepared to put on.  I like how these potholders are turning out.  I hope that my secret partner will enjoy them.  I'm very excited that my shipping deadline is over a month away and I am almost finished.  That doesn't usually happen when I'm working.  I'm loving my time off!

These were my first ever pinwheels.  I have always stayed away from pinwheels because I was afraid of the points not meeting in the middle.  Thanks to a post from Pam's blog, I found out about a super simple way to make pinwheels using a tutorial from the Missouri Star Quilt Company on youtube.  They have a ton of really useful tutorials!  Be sure to check them out!

And if you are looking for my Blogiversary Giveaway just click here.  It is open until Monday AM.

FNSI and a wonderful week of sewing!

I had an absolutely fabulous week full of sewing!  I made so many things and now I feel a great sense of accomplishment.  I'll share two of the bags I made with you in this post since I finished one and started one during the Friday Night Sew In hosted by Bobbi and Heidi.

The first bag I made was from Debbie Mumm fabrics.  I love the coffee prints! It was a lot of fun to make.  I especially love the flower!

Sorry that the pictures in this post aren't real great.  It's late and I'm too exhausted to be creative.  The last picture is the inside of the bag if you couldn't tell. :)

The second bag is from the tutorial on Bobbi's blog.  I LOVE this pattern!  I will be making many more of these.  Again, the picture won't do this bag justice, but in person it is AWESOME!

Now, off to bed so I can sew in the morning!
Gute Nacht!

Friday Night Sew In and Project Pillow Swap

Well, it's about time...I broke the deadline on my own swap!  This is what I finished up during the FNSI for June.

I hope my partner will forgive my tardiness. The parcel will be in the mail tomorrow!
This is the pillow that I created.  I had such a fun time picking out the fabrics.  They aren't something that I would have picked for myself, but I am really liking them now that I have them sewn together.

And since I had some left over fabric, I thought I should make up for my lateness and make my partner a second pillow cover.  I didn't have a pillow form that was the right size, so they look a little wimpy in the pictures.

FNSI and Potholders!

This is what I worked on for the Friday Night Sew In.  I had hoped to get the borders done too, but I also had to do a lot of baking for a bake sale.  This quilt is for my son's 1st grade teacher who will retire at the end of this year.  Each student created a block for it.  My oldest son also had the same teacher for 1st grade.  She is pretty special to us.

I also received a special package in the mail this week!  It was my potholder pass 3 package from Karrie.  She is super talented!

Not only did she include potholders, but she also gave me two beautiful towels and a third potholder.  Thank you so much, Karrie!

A new tote for me!!

My new school tote... now I can feel extra happy heading off to school each morning.  Pretty soon I will be happy sleeping in once summer vacation gets here though!  Only 35 days of school left, but who's counting?!?
Anyway, this is what I worked on for FNSI.  The pattern is from Heather Ross's book, Weekend Sewing.  If you haven't checked it out, you don't know what you are missing!  I used some of my African stash as well as some luxurious chocolate brown corduroy.  I love it!
Here is a peek inside.  It does have a pocket.

And this beauty here is the source of my despair... welcome to springtime!  If only I could breathe!!!
But isn't it pretty!?!

Sew In and a birthday...

WOW!  What a day!  Today is the first day of trout season here in PA, so the day started quite early.  All of the boys headed out in the snow (yes, I said snow) to see if they could catch "The Big One".  No such luck today, but it gave me time to clean up and get ready for our out of town family to arrive, a.k.a, my mom and dad, grandma and aunt for B's birthday celebration.  What a fun, fun day!  I wish they could all be like today!
Here is B's awesome fishing cake.  He loved it!

Even the party dog had fun!
Ok, I lied, he ripped the hat off right after I took the pic!

So, throw in a nasty cold and J's soccer match on top of our celebration and I hope you understand why I didn't email the Project Pillow Swap info today.  I have everyone matched up, and I promise to email first thing in the morning!  I'm too tired right now and I would hate to mess something up.

Friday Night Sew In was a success.  My project is almost complete, but not quite.  I don't want to show it all just yet, so here is a sneak peek...

I can't wait to finish... it's actually for me!
Thanks to Bobbi and Heidi for hosting the Sew In.

Friday Night Sew In small Results

Well, Friday came and went and I didn't accomplish nearly as much as I had hoped to.  But it was good, quality time with my boys.  We all sat and stitched for a while and it was fun.

I found a very wise looking owl pattern from Badbird's blog and with a little inspiration from the fat quarters that Bobbi sent me I decided to start making either a pillow or a wall hanging.  I can't wait to see how it looks when it's finished!  I saved the french knots for last.  I love doing those!

This is what my 6 year old did...

This is what my 8 year old worked on...

I designed both of those myself.

I can't wait to post whatever I sew tonight!
Happy Sewing!

Sew-in results from Friday!

Ok, so this is what I accomplished last night during the sew-in with fellow sewers from Heidi's blog.  Still a WIP, but starting to shape up and look like something. I can't wait to see what everyone else created!

Obviously I am not finished with it, but I am a lot farther along that I was when it was just some strippy squares. I got the idea for this table runner from John at The Quilt Dad .  His work is absolutely beautiful!  The table runner was featured at the Moda Bake Shop . He calls it "Turning Corners".  His was pinwheels, which I had planned to do, but it just looked better as stripes.  I'm off to buy some fabric for the back and some batting today.
Hopefully I can finish this soon, but the weekend is looking a little too busy for that.  If all the snow isn't melted by afternoon we will be off to a sled- riding party.  Have a terrific Saturday!
